I am working on permissions tonight (August 13th) and those of you who have already applied should hear from me no later than Monday evening.
(please see update for August 22 at bottom of this post !)
A few notes on how we grant permission:
- preference in the early season will be given to those with a BULL ELK tag. We realize it is a long wait to get these tags and those willing to wait should be rewarded with access.
- preference will also be given to those hunters interested in harvesting whitetail DOE'S. We have a very healthy population of doe's here and the last number of years very few people are harvesting any of them. We realize the excitement and enjoyment that comes with shooting big bucks - but to help us out we are asking that those hunting during whitetail season be willing to shoot a doe.
- preference will be given to those hunters who have proven themselves to be conscientious, have respect for us and the property and have taken the time to ensure they are following the rules of access here.
Updates for 2017 as of today:
-most of you will be aware that the fire risk in the area is very high. We ask that you please consider this when accessing the property. This means be careful about leaving vehicles idling in tall grass - and no smoking or fire of any sort outside of your vehicles.
- we will be limiting access this year to 10 hunters in EACH season. We do feel bad turning people away and recognize the need to have hunters here helping with both the deer and elk population, however it needs to stay at a number where we can still enjoy our home and ranch.
- I cannot say it enough - but there will be NO ACCESS from the north end of the ranch !!
Thanks to everyone who has once again been so patient and cooperative.
****as of August 22nd I am up to date on permissions - if you have not heard back from me please email me at info@hunttheranch.com or call/text me at 403 627 9598. Thanks again for everyone's patience - my inbox has been very full and the ranch keeps me busy ! To date 45 hunters have been approved (which puts me already 5 over what I said we would allow). We do try and be accommodating but please realize we are a working ranch and this is our HOME - so we have limits on how many we can allow. Unfortunately very few hunters will receive further permission - however I do encourage people to still apply as then if we do have a number of hunters fill tags or cancel days I can get in touch with others still wanting to hunt****
